Exercise burns fat for three main reasons:

Exercise is not the only fat burning factor. If it weren’t for your diet, your body would burn fat. So diet and exercise go hand-in-glove, right?
Wrong.
Exercise is a wonderful thing, a key to muscle gain. But it doesn’t burn fat. Fat is burned up during exercise.
