How long does it take to lose belly?

A lot longer or much shorter, as the weight and composition of the body change. I’m pretty sure that for most women we’re lucky to lose as much as 1 or 2 pounds of their body weight in a few weeks on a good diet, but the process of losing belly mass really does take time. With that in mind, please don’t be discouraged if you can’t lose that much belly weight in a short amount of time, even if it means trying to start from scratch. Keep doing everything you can.

How does the diet work? When you’re on a low-carb or high-fat, high-protein diet, what foods are you eating to get the weight off faster?

You have to start with a pretty lean diet in the beginning, and most of the diet is done with veggies or fruits. If you go to a plant-based menu when you first start losing weight, this can mean switching from a whole foods-based diet to a more plant-based one or adding in whole foods in between. But overall, it’s usually a very lean food list, with lots of fresh veggies and fruits, some meats and beans or seeds and eggs. For the most part, the food I feed these clients is something that a lot of people don’t do with regard to weight loss: vegetables, fruits and vegetables only. The reason for this is that these foods really help to restore energy levels in the body. In addition, they contain fibre (good for digestion), which helps the body recover and get back to having the energy levels it needs to function normally again. By the time you’re on a diet like that, you’re actually able to lose weight quite quickly. So even if you stick to it for a while, you can get a pretty good sense of where you stand, because you can see what’s working and what isn’t, and then it’s possible to change back.

I’m a nurse practitioner, and the way I do weight loss is very much, ‘if the patient says I could do that, I’ll do that.’ But for me it’s actually harder to do than someone who is a physician. That’s the reason why I want to try and offer these diets to other health professionals as well.
