I used to like singing, so I did that for about six months, and I don’t like dancing. I like to play the piano, so I play that for about 10 hours a day. As you can see, if I could dance, I would be a dancing machine! (laughs)
What are your impressions of the city?
I like it a lot. I was able to get up on my feet in Tokyo, and it has a special atmosphere for me. In my country, I think they still have a lot of culture, a feeling that is similar to Japan. There’s a feeling of community and a feeling of being in a large family.
What is your advice for children?
I don’t do it all and tell them what to do all the time. What matters for children and adults is to find out what’s interesting to them and what they’re passionate about.
What do you think about Japanese food?
Japanese food? Who said they do anything Japanese? (laughs) It can taste like what you buy in a grocery store, which makes people wonder what is the difference between Japanese and foreign. Japanese food tastes like sushi or miso soup or something. At the beginning, I hated sushi, but I love it now.
What do you like to say when talking and what’s not easy to say?
I used to hate it sometimes, so I’m now good at it. After speaking, I usually think something about it. People often ask me what’s in my bag and I always have something to say about a subject or ask a question before telling a story.
What do you have in your bag?
Nothing special. I have a notebook, a pen, a pair of scissors, and a pocket knife. I also have a bottle of liquid oil that’s good for shaving, and a mirror with a red light that works well at night and keeps the skin color balanced.
The Japanese word for it is sashi in “sakura” (mumford, “sakura”, “flower” in English), and I think it has something to do with the spring.
A lot has come out of my article about the problems of using a single-payer health system. It has inspired many people to take up the fight against it, and it has been widely covered by national and local news outlets. The news about that coverage has been pretty good.
A large portion of the coverage has been
