1.) First and foremost, learning to draw, draw, draw. Don’t get discouraged by the fact that you can’t draw every day. It’s okay to have problems at the beginning. If you start thinking about how to solve them, then you will grow as a professional.
I used to struggle to learn the basics of drawing. There was so much I didn’t know. I had to practice to be able to draw well; but as far as my progress was concerned, it was not a problem.
You have to learn a lot because it’s a long and tedious process, but it’s totally worth it. The process has only three steps: sketching, drawing and analyzing your work.
2.) When learning to draw, you’ve got to learn what you don’t know. This might sound boring if you’re a beginner at drawing. In reality, you’re not going to develop your skills if you focus too much on how good you are for drawing and ignore other areas of your life that don’t require great skills. In our world nowadays, the world has a lot of information; it’s necessary to learn the basics of how to use it.
When learning to draw, I used to be a bit discouraged. But as time passed by, my life improved in many ways, and I got very good at drawing. When a drawing is done well, you don’t need to do a lot of research. You only need to know one thing, which is to draw the image as accurately as possible.
3.) The most important thing is your practice. There is no shortcut to the art of drawing. If you’re not doing your best each day, then what you want to do isn’t getting better, but getting worse because you’re getting better only in small steps.
My practice included my own personal practice to study how to draw. I would watch movies or TV shows, look at images on Flickr or the internet. I started with the more complicated images, because those tend to be easier to see by the people who already know how to draw, but as time goes by, I added more and more simple photos, like my wife was teaching me how to draw last year. I began to draw with my own hands when I started to draw in high school, and I started to draw a lot of my friends, because they don’t see my drawings with their own eyes, and they can’t see the mistakes I made in the past.
