This process of experimentation in the classroom should be encouraged! The key here is having a method that works for you. The key for this workshop are the basic elements of perspective (height, width and depth), as well as the key features such as edges, outlines and contours. The first thing to think about is whether you have the ability to actually visualize these.
A video overview of the basic aspects of perspective can be viewed at: http://www.instartopia.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/view-videography-from-a-view-of-a-prelatex-in-thesis.mp4
The workshop will start with a lesson given by a professional studio photographer. This is to get you up to speed with the basics so that you can approach your own work with greater confidence. After the lesson you will be able to:
Create your own work
Create new material
Learn how to use various tools
And, of course, have all your paints and brushes at hand, ready to go.
How long will it take?
The session will last 90 minutes in total, however, if there is the opportunity to work on the exercises, the session will be extended by the additional 30 minutes. It is important that you arrive at the studio at least 30 minutes before the lesson starts.
What if I am short on time?
As long as you pay close attention to the materials and are not distracted by the students, there is no reason why this workshop can’t be carried out within the allotted time.
Do I take photos?
Absolutely not! Although there are various forms of photography at the workshop, it is all about using the right tools, equipment and a good mindset.
It is all about how you use tools, materials and a good approach!
What are the expected results?
The workshop is not meant to be an objective assessment of talent – but rather, it is an interactive learning environment where you are treated like a student.
If you are struggling to work out how to create a perspective image or if you are already interested in the basics, then the workshop is a great opportunity to gain a new perspective on art and photography in general. And since the lesson is based on your previous understanding of different perspectives, it may well be the opportunity to test-drive all the different tools available to you.
