The main study suggests that music isn’t particularly good at identifying who or what humans are because musical brain structures are more similar between man and animals. In other words, brain anatomy doesn’t seem to be the key to the difference in creativity between human and animal brains.
“Music should be treated as a biological category,” he says, as music can be a vital means with which humans can communicate, and an essential part of people’s everyday lives.
The scientists say they also think more research on the nature of artistic creativity should be funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s (AHRC) Creative Industries Research Council (CREAC).
“A creative brain, unlike, say, physical ability or education, is not limited to a small group of people who think and act the same way. Creativity arises from our diverse, inter-dependent, multidimensional and ever-shifting society and our many musical, cultural and psychological communities, in addition to our personal inner struggles.”
I’ve written a couple of posts about these little guys. I haven’t had a chance to use them yet, but I can get behind the appeal to use them for a few reasons. The first is a question I get asked about them. It’s a good one. As much I love the idea of a small smartphone camera, I don’t think it’s so practical for most people. Most of us don’t have a camera phone with the megapixels of a GoPro or a Lumia. You don’t need the megapixels of the Lumia 1020 for the photos, and if you do, you shouldn’t be carrying one around. So as much as we might love the idea of the small, compact camera, it isn’t going to be the right phone for most people. The second reason is how you want to use that little device. Most of those smaller devices have been made with a good idea in mind. Sure, they are great for quick things like taking an image of the local dog with your smartphone, but you are also going to want to use them for more important tasks. And with a tiny camera, one of the most important tasks is that: taking a picture. If you want to use a tiny smartphone for that, then you really need to be carrying more power and more batteries than that tiny phone. You also need to be more comfortable using it than you are used to. For most people on a budget, that means a bigger, heavier phone.
