The Supreme Court will not hear cases on the fate of “climate change” litigation until there is the consensus of the nation as a whole, President Barack Obama said Thursday — an acknowledgment of a bitter, divisive campaign year in which President-elect Donald Trump used the issue of human-caused climate change as a campaign stump.
“One of the many challenges we have is that we’ve been on track to getting something done this year,” Obama said in an interview with National Public Radio.
Obama’s words represent a break from former President George W. Bush’s approach to the environmental problem. He launched a federal court program to combat climate change as president, appointing legal experts to write guidelines and urging courts to act in an aggressive manner. Bush’s approach was criticized as a political ploy with little real legal teeth, at least in the courts.
Trump has said that climate change is not a hoax and that climate change is a “hoax.” Trump’s nomination of Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson to run the State Department, and his nomination of Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to head the Environmental Protection Agency were similarly seen as political maneuvering. The EPA and Department of Justice are considering litigation over climate change.

On Saturday, Franken used his appearance on NBC’s “Meet The Press” (and the first of six town halls he’ll answer to throughout the day) to talk about abortion.

Instead of sticking to his well-worn stump speech about protecting women’s health care, Franken chose to explain in detail what Planned Parenthood is, who does it, how it was able to make profit from the sale of tissue and tissue-related product, the fact that in some cases, the material didn’t be donated but instead was destroyed.
“We do what we do to protect women,” Franken explained.
Then, he followed up with a question about the Planned Parenthood videos.
