Police confirmed to NDTV that 35-year-old Mufti was found dead in his house in New Delhi’s South Colony area. He was pronounced dead last night.
According to police, Mufti had left a mosque for prayers when people gathered around him.
“When he was walking towards the mosque, people called him names. He tried to resist and tried hitting them but they beat him up, tore his jacket, punched him and dragged him to the ground,” the victim’s brother told NDTV.
Police said that the mob tried to burn Mufti’s house but were stopped by locals who took cover inside. The police are now investigating to identify the culprits.
The incident is the latest in a string of horrific incidents over the past few months, in which a number of people have been killed.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins today agreed to a minor league contract with forward Brett Bellemore, the club announced. He’ll wear No. 20 with the Pittsburgh Penguins’ American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
“He did play pretty well at the world juniors, and I think as the year has gone on, he’s become a very consistent player,” Penguins General Manager Jim Rutherford said. “It wasn’t as big a gamble to sign him as it was to take less time from other people to sign somebody else.”
