The only rapper you hear on the radio right now is Eminem, and it’s great because that’s what people are listening to. Eminem wants to take all the best parts of all those greats over there, and then to make it his, like we don’t need to make his album or his shit, but just bring out some of the greatest records that have come out of this generation. So he just wants to take all the best qualities of what they’ve done, and put them together and be like, “You know what, we’re here. We’re here to talk to you.”
How’s Eminem’s new album different from the Eminem album of the ’70s and ’80s?
It’s very different in that it’s like the sound of a generation. The music on the album sounds so fresh, and so much different. Not in a bad way, just in terms of how the music sounds. So, you’re working with Kevin Gates, the artist who played the role of MC Hammer in the video for “Lose Yourself” from “The Marshall Mathers LP 2”?
That’s right! Kevin Gates has been on every album since “The Marshall Mathers LP 2,” so they’re pretty close with each other. It’s just one of those things, like if I could have all these different projects, I would. But Kevin’s just great, and he’s the one that plays that character, I think, that really fits on the music videos.
Where do you see hip-hop in the future?
I think there’s an abundance of different voices, and it’s time to put it all out there, and it’s a great
