What’s it like to be a professional musician? It was a struggle for me, because it’s hard for me to find music. I’m not looking for a contract right now, it’s just making music, producing music, and creating art. I’m sure it will be a lot smoother out there because the government is not as oppressive as it might be in the states. But all my friends say: You should sign a contract at some point.”
“I got accepted as a student at Stanford. I got accepted to Stanford to study physics. It was the first time you could go to school for anything. I was working on my own stuff, playing around with a guitar. I don’t feel that I am very good at it, but I got accepted in spite of that. It’s hard to think about where in the world I will go after I graduate, but I know I will probably find a work. If I go back to Taiwan and start a band, you might expect me to do something a little crazy. I’ll just have to be patient and not get too excited.”
You said you’ve already put off music because of being in a band. Any advice for the fans?
“It can be really hard to see your friends playing music. I have to make sure that no one is going to go over to my room because I have my laptop there. I do my best to keep a distance from my friends’ music, even though I don’t put it too close to them as far as being a part of it. It’s almost more important for people to get over the fact that it’s not my music that I make.”
This is my first review of Bowery Ballroom and it doesn’t sound like much – I only watched six seconds from the opening scene, and that’s all. The film was a big hit at SXSW last year, and, if you like experimental music videos but aren’t sure when to stop, it’s worth checking out.
