Practice all the time. But it’s impossible to practice all the time. Some time goes into your day, some time goes into your life. Whatever it is, you need to make sure you spend time on it.
Have you ever heard that it takes two seconds to teach a child the piano sound? It turns out that two seconds equals 12 songs. That’s a long time spent.
If you want to learn, start with short, manageable lessons and work your way up to something more complicated. It’s only when you hit that level of complexity and speed that you will begin to develop your own ideas. You can train your own brain to be able to learn something in just minutes. And for this you can’t do better than taking lessons from someone who is already an expert.
You don’t have to have every lesson from someone you’re thinking of. Take what’s useful and put it into your own practice routine. I recommend spending at least 15 to 20 seconds per lesson to practice a song. The more time you spend, the more you’ll progress.
What’s the most frustrating thing you hear music with?
The most tedious thing about music is the repetitive “chime in” sounds. They come on every note.
You really need to change that. Most people hear music a certain way, and then they’re just a bit off and that’s enough to make them annoyed at the piano. Here’s how.
First start with a song you’re not very familiar with. Start with the most basic instrument, and try to play as much as you can in 12 seconds. As you get more used to playing the notes, you should be able to repeat the notes with less variation—and keep your playing even more pleasant. If you can do that you won’t have the problem of “chiming” in the notes.
Second, try to replace all the chimes you hear in the background with your own. You could choose to do this on the piano where you can get away with it, or you can just switch on the recorder. Switching it on while playing won’t affect accuracy of sound, but will probably take you longer to tune in.
For example, if playing the notes on a keyboard, when you make a chord just start playing the chime. You can keep playing that with out the “chime in” sound. After you’ve done that a dozen times, switch the recorder off and switch back on.
