How difficult is playing piano? – Play Piano Using Only Black Keys

I think the hardest thing about playing piano is the fact that you have to be able to improvise to the beat of the music. As a pianist, I must learn to improvise to the most fundamental chords – major, minor, seventh, and ninth and, as a musician, I have to learn to play my technique to the most subtle of changes because the music is so much more sophisticated than what I can play on a piano.

When is your next show?

It’ll be the first night I do a special on “Farewell Miss Marple.”

What do you hope the audience will find meaningful in your playing?

My purpose is to entertain with my music. The audience will discover something for themselves here or, they know that they want to discover something, and maybe even come away with some new knowledge – new songs, new emotions, new meanings about life. My goal is simply to entertain people with music. I’d like to see people come away having made some new connections to the world by seeing how I communicate with the music. Music is meant to be played, to be heard, to move people. That’s what it means to be a musician.

I’d like to go back to the stage and give a concert. That will be the next show. The next show is coming soon. I have a special in mind. I’ll see if I can pull something in the future that seems feasible and, more important, that I can put into practice.

What would you say to someone who was looking for some help in becoming a better pianist?

The only skill that is necessary as a pianist is your ability to be able to connect with the music you play. You learn that through repetition. Don’t forget about that. Keep practicing and don’t think you’ll be able to get better simply by writing a few new songs or playing a few new lessons. You need to practice with the music you’re playing.
