The “Dancing Under the Influence” Tour is an ongoing effort for A-trak, a non-profit organization that works with schools, businesses, churches and local agencies in helping to end alcohol abuse, to encourage youth to have a positive role in their neighborhoods, and to address the problem of teen drinking. Since 2004, more than 500 individuals, schools and businesses have traveled on the A-trak-directed “Dancing Under The Influence,” giving voice to the importance of prevention. As the name suggests, the “Dancing” tour offers a series of performances, in a variety of settings, to inspire and educate teens about the dangers of alcohol for a variety of reasons including social acceptance. These includes public education; youth leadership program; and awareness and policy based programs. The traveling “Dancing Under The Influence” tour is a continuation of the work of the A-trak-led national organization’s Teen Drinking Prevention campaign, which was the first public education campaign in the nation to highlight the role of alcohol in youth abuse. “We wanted to give a voice to the youth in communities and to let our audiences hear what we were calling the ‘troubling truth of teen drinking’,” explains Amy J. Lee, President of A-trak.

This week’s tour will start in a downtown Atlanta theater at the Georgia Theatre. A-trak will tour the city of Atlanta’s downtown area – home to hundreds of schools and many high school, college and career programs – with the “Dancing Under The Influence” series. The first of three performances will be on Saturday, May 25th, starting at 9 p
